How do I install IM+ for Palm OS?

You can download IM+ for Palm OS from our website

1. Connect your Palm device to the PC.
2. Open Palm Desktop (application for transferring files to Palm), and transfer the *.prc file to your Palm.
3. Run the *.prc file from archive using HotSync (Palm system utility) on your Palm and proceed with installation.
4. IM+ icon appears among other application icons on your device.
5. The installation process is finished. You can start working with IM+ now.

Tip: Please save the installation file in your phone memory but not on your SD card

Do you offer over-the-air installation?

1. You can download IM+ for Palm OS directly to your mobile device from our wap-site: wap.shapeservices.com
2. Select IM+ and click on IM+ for Palm OS. After download finishes, the installation process will start automatically.
3. IM+ icon appears among other application icons on your device. You can start working with IM+ now.

How do I register IM+? How can I get a license code?

When you purchase IM+ from our website, you get an e-mail from SHAPE Services, which includes the lifetime license code to register the application. Please be sure to check your SPAM or JUNK folder, if you cannot locate the e-mail in your inbox.

Tip: All updates are free of charge for our users.

I haven't got the license code from you yet!

The e-mail could be blocked by your spam filters. Please check your "Spam" folder.

How do I update my current IM+ version?

If you are going to upgrade to the newer version, please make sure you have exited the application correctly. Select 'Disconnect and exit' from the Menu before starting the upgrade. You can download the latest version of IM+ for Palm OS from our website

If the current IM+ version number is less than 2.6 please uninstall your current IM+ version first:

1. Open application launcher.
2. Go to Menu->Delete.
3. Find IM+ file and delete it. If some glitch appears when deleting the file, make a soft-reset of your device and try once again.

Do I have to pay for the future updates?

No, all our future updates are free for our users.

Registration:

You can try a full-functional version of IM+ for 7 days or purchase the license code to get the unlimited access to the application. If you purchase the license code, you are automatically entitled to receive all future updates for free.

If you have already purchased IM+, you should have received your license code by e-mail. Type in the license code and click 'Registration'.

If you want to use IM+ in trial mode, then click 'Trial'

I've lost my license code for IM+. Can I have it sent to me or maybe get another one?

Please fill out our License Reminder form entering your email address, which you used when purchasing the product. In a few minutes the license code will be delivered to the email address you have specified.

I have received the error message 'Invalid license code. Please check and reenter it'. What should I do?

This message could pop up in two cases:
You are trying to enter the IM+ license code, for the wrong mobiles platform, nor for Palm. In this case fill out the support form and denote the mobile device model, IM+ license code and we will process your request ASAP.
You may have received the error message if you input the license code incorrectly. Please check your license code; it consists of 15 symbols, letters and digits only.

I am about to switch my Palm to another device (phone). Do I have to purchase another license code?

If you exchange your device, you can transfer your license to your Symbian or Java device or Windows Mobile Smartphone for free.
If you exchange your device for Pocket PC or Blackberry, you can also transfer your license code after covering the price difference $10.
In both cases just fill out the support form and denote your new mobile device model, the license code for IM+ for Palm and we will process your request ASAP.

Can I use the license code for IM+ for Palm as the license code for IM+ for BlackBerry (Java phones, Windows Mobile Pocket PC/ Smartphone, Symbian OS phones)?

No, IM+ for Palm and IM+ for the other mobile platforms need different license codes. Please fill out the support form and denote your new mobile device model, the license code for IM+ for Palm and we will process your request ASAP.

If I have two Palm OS devices, can I use one license code for both devices?

No, you can use one license code for IM+ for Palm on one Palm device only.

Connection:

Can I create a new account right from the application?

No, you can not create a new account in IM+. You can create a new account and get additional information about the IM services on the corresponding sites:

How do I connect to the Services?

You should have the login information for each service you wish to work with.

1. Click Options - Services.
2. Choose the service you want to connect to.

Jabber:

Login: Your Jabber ID, which you've received after the registration for this service (e.g.: Johnny@jabber.org)

Password: Your Jabber password

Host: Enter host information (For example: Jabber.org)

Port: Default Jabber port is 5222

Use SSL: You can enable the accepted security industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). This option is disabled by default.

Note: 1.If you want to use SSL then please change Jabber port to 5223.

2. If you want to connect to your corporate Jabber server, you need to insert correct domain and port information. Corporate Jabber servers usually use non-standard ports. If you are not sure, contact your Jabber server administrator.

What is the code page for?

This option is available only for AIM®/iChat and ICQ services. If you want to send and receive non-Latin characters from West Use CP1252 European alphabets you should select CP1252.
Please select CP1251 if you use Cyrillic alphabet.
Please select Use Big5 for Traditional Chinese and EUC-CN (GB2312) for Simplified Chinese alphabets.

1. Click Options - Services.
2. Choose AIM®/iChat or ICQ.
3. Select the code page you need.

How do I enable the services' launch on startup?

What should I do when I receive the message 'Could not connect to the server. Please try again later'?

To check if you have enabled Internet please follow these steps:

1. Select Prefs from the Application menu and then Network.
2. Select the Service that you would typically use to connect to Internet from your Palm and click connect.

If the Internet connection is established, but you have problems connecting to the services in IM+, please fill out the support form, describe the situation in more details and our Support Team will help you ASAP.

If the Internet connection is not established, please contact your wireless service provider and request internet connection settings, then try to connect in IM+ again.

I receive the error message 'Authorization failed, please check your login/password'. What should I do?

Please try to connect to the services with our test accounts.

If you have successfully connected to any of the services with our test accounts than please enter your login and password and try to connect once more.

IM+ drops connection frequently. What can I do?

There are two methods of solving this problem:

First:

1. Click Options - Preferences.
2. Choose Connection and click Auto reconnect. This option will start reconnection automatically when connection is broken.

Second:

1. Click Options - Preferences.
2. Choose Connection and select Keep-Alive interval.

Tip: You can set up Keep-Alive interval between connections to the IM+ and GATE Server. We recommend you to set Keep alive at 1 minute (the default setting).

Sending and Receiving Messages:

How do I send an instant message?

1. Select the contact.
2. Type your message, and then click Send. Your message is immediately sent to the online contact.

Tip: You can add emoticons to your messages. Click the Emoticon icon, and then click on the smiley you want to send.

How can I work with and edit the template messages?

1. In the open dialog click on the the edit icon icon.
2. Choose the '+' button to create a new template message.

You can delete the template message by selecting -.
You can edit the template message by selecting *.

How could I switch between conversations?

When you chat with several contacts simultaneously, conversations are opened in separate tabs.
1. Click on the tab with the name of the contact.
Tip: You can also click on the the tab icon icon and select the name of the contact.

How could I add a contact?

1. Click Main - Add User.
2. Choose the service, enter the user ID and the nickname and select Add User.
User ID - the unique identification of the user you want to add:

- AIM®/iChat: login should not contain "@aol.com";
- MSN: login should contain server address information
- Yahoo!: login should not contain "@yahoo.com"
- ICQ: ICQ number
- Jabber: Jabber login (For instance: imtest2@jabber.com)
- Google Talk: login should contain server address information "@gmail.com"

User nickname - name you like to associate with the user in your contact list.
Group - select one of the groups listed you want to add your buddy to.

How could I remove a contact?

1. Select the contact.
2. Click Main - Remove User.

How could I rename a contact?

You cannot rename a contact in IM+, but you can rename a contact in the respective messenger on the PC.
New nickname will be shown in IM+.

How could I view the details of the contact?

How can I let others know that I am busy and don't want to be disturbed. Is it possible to change my status?

Yes, just click the service icon and set the status you wish to have. You can set the proper status for every service separately.

I want to see contacts who are online only. How can I do this?

Click the Online Only icon the online only icon (the last icon in the tab of the services).

Can I switch to another application after the connection in IM+ is established?

IM+ can run in the background after you have logged in.

How should I open the incoming message when I am using another application?

When a message arrives, the indication of the incoming message will be shown in the window of active application. If you want to read the message, click on the envelope the envelope icon.

When I log onto the services on my mobile device, why am I being disconnected from my PC?

Most of IM services don't allow you to be logged in under the same account on two devices simultaneously. So if you log in at IM+, you will be logged off from these services on the PC.
