Well idk if this question has been asked before or not! But I'll ask it anyway ^^,'

What does the time indicate?

(Say, 24 minutes ago)

The period the person is idle? The period he's been chatting? The last time he chatted and now he is not? Or what?

It's the time passed since users location has been updated.

how does the user update his location?

Usually user location gets updated when he/she starts IM+ from Push mode as most users prefer to keep the application in background to save battery power.

It also updates automatically every minute when user is online and IM+ is running on his/her device.

Yes, location should be updated when the user is chatting.
