Direct Jabber/XMPP connection w/o intermediary IM+ 'proxy'

Postby trafsta » Tue May 24, 2011 7:41 pm

I see that when IM+ connects to our Openfire v3.7.0 Jabber/XMPP server that it does so from an external IP address (like a IM+ Proxy..?) and it does not connect directly from the IP address of the phone (whether it be wifi connected on the same network as the Openfire server or a BES [BlackBerry Enterprise Server] connected phone out and about on a 3G cellular connection). My hope is that I can make IM+ connect directly and securely from the BlackBerry straight to the OpenFire server to avoid having to worry about going through a 3rd party (IM+) server.

Now I'm sure this is likely not possible (it isn't possible with any other feature-rich Jabber/XMPP BlackBerry clients out there like Beejive, etc) but I thought I'd ask here just in case I'm missing something.

Thanks

IM+ connects only via our gate servers. It is not possible to connect directly, sorry.

Thank you for the reply Victoria. I was afraid that would be the answer :)

As far as I can tell, all communication across Jabber/XMPP is encrypted anyways since we are using SSL via port 5223, right? Hopefully that is secure enough!

Please make sure that you have enabled "Use SSL" in IM+ "Settings" / "Connection".

Is that an SSL connection towards your gateway servers and then your gateway servers sets up a -new- SSL connection towards the end-of-point or do you 'shuffle' the connection?
If I'd do a certificate verification, would that be your gateway servers'certificate that has to be verified or the end-point's?

New connection is established.

The SSL certificate would be the certificate of one of our gate servers.
